I’ve been starting to experiment with bases and light speckles. It’s a fine balance to achieve!
It’s quite easy to achieve a bold, all-over speckle but in comparison, it’s quite tricky to get the minimal effect I’m going for – I’m aiming to create the subtlest possible flecks of colour, to create warm, neutral palettes that are perfect for heirloom knits you will reach for time and again.
Another exciting step I’ve taken is to try natural dyeing, and combining natural and acid dyes. I’ll explore acid dyes more in another post as they absolutely deserve attention all to themselves – for now, I’m very happy with the results of lightly speckling a merino/nylon blend dyed with avocado.
